I've chosen to continue to provide oral surgery services, being a general dentist, because it's something that I am good at and it's something that I enjoy doing, but one of the things that we do that's different than other offices is providing full impacted wisdom teeth removal. Because of my training, I'm competent to do that. That's not always the case with general dentists.
We usually sedate the patient in one way shape or form and get the wisdom teeth out in a very efficient manner which is important to patients, they don't spend a long time in the chair. It's usually about a 15 or 20 minute procedure.
There are a number of oral surgery options that usually the patient doesn't want to hear the details of. I go to great lengths to not describe technical details unless a patient really, really presses me. There are bone replacement options, there are sinus lift options that we can provide. There are tooth replacement options in the implant range that we can provide.
While many dental offices refer their patients to oral surgery specialists, our Norton Shores, MI dentist can save you time and possibly money by offering a variety of oral surgery services right here in our office! Dr. Christopher Sortman has studied dentistry at University of Michigan Dental School and has completed Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program while serving as Navy dentist.
