Would you like to have whiter teeth? It’s OK if you do.
It doesn’t make you vain. It makes you human.
All of us want to look our best. It’s the reason we wear clothes that look nice. It’s the reason we cut or style our hair a certain way. It’s the reason some of us wear makeup.
In fact, teeth whitening is one of the most requested treatments in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
We’ve helped several patients achieve whiter and brighter smiles at our dentist office in Norton Shores, MI.
If you are interested in changing the color of your teeth, just schedule a consultation at Community Shores Dental. One of our dentists will be glad to talk to you about our four different options for changing your stained or discolored teeth.
The Reasons Your Teeth Aren’t White Anymore
If you are getting older, and all of us are, then your teeth are going to change colors gradually with time. It’s just part of life.
The reasons why can vary, but here is a brief explanation of some common causes of discolored teeth:
- Stains — This one you know. You love your morning coffee, tea, soft drinks, pasta, salsa, strawberries, and countless other foods and drinks that can add to the stains on your teeth. Over time (years, decades) this adds up.
- Side Effects May Vary — Some medications can cause your teeth to turn colors. This is an unfortunate side effect that some people experience.
- Trauma — Getting hit in the mouth with anything — a ball, an elbow, a puck — can damage your teeth and cause them to change colors.
- Wear And Tear — The more you use your teeth, the more likely you are to wear down the enamel. As this outer layer of your teeth becomes thinner, the yellower layer of dentin underneath may become more visible.
How Make Your Teeth White
As we mentioned earlier, you have four options for whitening your smile if you come to Community Shores Dental.
➤ Option 1: In-office teeth whitening
Professional teeth whitening products are far more effective and efficient at removing stains from your teeth than commercial products you might find on a store shelf.
In-office whitening is the fastest way to remove stains and give yourself a bright smile again. We use Zoom whitening for our in-office treatment.
This is a proven product that can visibly improve the color of your teeth in about an hour. During your treatment, the whitening product will be applied to your mouth for three 15-minute intervals. By the time you leave, your smile could be up to eight shades whiter than it was when you walked into the office.
➤ Option 2: At-home teeth whitening
Some people prefer a do-it-yourself approach. Some people would rather do their whitening on their own time rather than making an appointment.
Whatever your reason, we can provide you with the products that you need to remove deep stains from your teeth in a matter of a few weeks.
This is not as fast at our in-office treatment, but it can be comparable effective by the time you have finished.
➤ Option 3: Porcelain Veneers
You may have noticed that we mentioned our professional teeth whitening options are good ways to remove stains from your teeth. What if your teeth aren’t discolored because of stains?
This is when veneers are often a better option. Veneers don’t remove stains or other kinds of discoloration. Instead, veneers are more like a shell that is bonded to the front of your teeth.
When the shell is in place, your teeth can look as white and bright as you would like. Porcelain veneers have the added advantage of being stain resistant, so if you get them, your smile is more likely to stay white for a long time.
To get porcelain veneers, we first need to remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth. We then make impressions, which the lab will use to make a custom-fitted set of veneers just for your teeth.
In just a matter of a few weeks, your teeth could look completely different than they do today.
➤ Option 4: Lumineers
Lumineers are similar to porcelain veneers only much thinner. Lumineers are so thin that we often don’t have to remove any enamel from your teeth.
The effect is the same. When your Lumineers are ready, we will bond them to the front of your teeth so your smile can look as white and bright as you would like.
