Learn Some Additional Uses Of Dental Sedation
If you get uncomfortable at the dentist, whether you are getting a routine dental cleaning and exam or a once in a lifetime procedure like a wisdom teeth removal, we can provide sedation to help you relax. But what you may not be aware of is that sedation has many other uses aside from relieving dental anxiety.
For one thing, when a patient is lightly sedated, we are able to work much more quickly than we would normally be able to. This is especially helpful for patients that have a very busy schedule and want to get their appointments taken care of as quickly as possible. You’ll still be able to communicate with us as we efficiently clean and beautify your smile.
Being able to complete treatments as fast as possible also allows us to get more work done. If you’re in need of multiple procedures or even just one complex treatment, we will be able to complete your visit in less time. In some cases, we can even get work done in one appointment that would normally take multiple visits.
If you have a bad gag reflex, you may also be able to get a more pleasant dental experience with the help of sedation. You’ll feel relaxed throughout your body and won’t have to worry about whether or not you’ll gag while we are reaching inside your mouth to clean your teeth and gums.
Our dental sedation options are also helpful if you or someone in your family has special needs. It can be stressful not fully understanding what’s going on, especially when you’re getting work done by a total stranger you may not be comfortable with. In this case, a little extra help can go a long way in calming patients.
We offer a few options for sedation. Regardless of which you use, we’ll administer the medication carefully and monitor you closely. Here are the forms we provide:
- Nitrous oxide, AKA “laughing gas”
- Oral conscious sedation in pill form
- IV sedation
- General anesthesia
