Conquer The Cause Of Your Dental Fears
It has been estimated that as many as 1-in-5 Americans deal with dental anxiety for one reason or another. Whether you feel self-conscious about the state of your teeth or you don’t like the sounds and smells of the dentist, it typically helps if you reflect on your dental anxiety to find the root cause. Below are some of the most common sources of dental anxiety we’ve encountered.
Movie and television creators never seem to get tired of the trope of the Depraved Dentist. One example that sticks out is Steve Martin as Dr. Orin Scrivello in Little Shop of Horrors (1986). Steve Martin is hilarious in this role but if you genuinely fear that dentists are sadists, you might not find it so funny.
It seems like we all have that one family member or friend that loves to talk in detail about medical procedures. But especially if this person is of a certain age, you might want to take their horror stories with a grain of salt. Dentistry is a rapidly evolving field and treatments are generally more comfortable and gentle than they used to be.
Or perhaps you’re the one that has had an unpleasant past experience at the dentist. Unlike the dentist that treated you poorly or didn’t seem to care about your level of comfort, we’ll do everything we can to make your visit a pleasant one. Read more about that below!
Take Advantage Of Our Comfort Options
We provide morning and evening appointments to fit your busy schedule and can even offer extended appointments by request so you won’t feel rushed.
All of our care rooms are semi-private (full walls with an open doorway) with the exception of one fully private care room that we can make available if you wish. We also offer various comfort options, like heated massage chairs, to put you at ease.
To ensure more precise, efficient treatments, we have equipped our Norton Shores, MI dentist office with some of the most state-of-the-art dental technology available, including a 3D X-ray system.
So you’ll know what to expect, we’ll explain the steps of any treatment you will be receiving and answer any questions you have. If a treatment we recommend could result in potential pain, we will numb your mouth with an anesthetic for your comfort.
And if all that isn’t enough to calm your nerves, we can also supply dental sedation options, including:
- Nitrous oxide, known as “laughing gas” in popular culture, which is a gas mixed with oxygen that quickly produces a mild euphoria when inhaled
- Oral conscious sedation, which we will provide a prescription for and you’ll take at a predetermined time prior to your appointment so you can arrive fully relaxed
- IV sedation, which takes effect almost immediately and creates a dream-like state
- General anesthesia, the strongest form of sedation we offer, which often results in only a vague memory of your dental visit
Our friendly team is here for you. If there’s anything we can do to make you less anxious, just let us know!
