Although Dr. Christopher Sortman and our other dentists are not board-certified as orthodontic specialists, they are qualified to provide full-spectrum orthodontics. In addition to receiving a Doctor of Dental Surgery, Dr. Sortman received training in progressive orthodontics. While serving as a dentist in the Navy, Dr. Sortman also completed an AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) program, which provides hands-on work with all dental specialties including endodontics and orthodontics.
In addition, Dr. Kreuze completed an AEGD two-year residency program while serving in the Army, providing him with the advanced skills needed to perform successful orthodontic treatment.
Our team understands that patients have different needs, and for this reason, we offer a few options when it comes to straightening teeth. Our younger patients undergoing tooth transition (the period where adult teeth replace baby teeth over time) often benefit from traditional braces. Traditional braces have fixed brackets cemented over the surfaces of teeth where ligatures and other fixed appliances such as palate expanders are anchored. Using consistent pressure, traditional orthodontics will shift teeth to straighter, upright positions over the course of treatment. If necessary, your dentist will work with an experienced oral surgeon when surgically assisted orthodontic treatment is required.
If you are looking for a quick, comfortable way to achieve a great smile, consider our short-term orthodontic options. We offer both ClearCorrect and Invisalign clear aligner therapy. Learn more about these options by visiting our page on short-term orthodontics.
Dentofacial orthopedics describes the element of orthodontic treatment that guides facial development and growth — a process that primarily occurs during childhood. Through the use of specialized appliances such as expanders and headgear, we can treat facial abnormalities and other developmental conditions. Dentofacial orthopedic treatment may be performed prior to placing conventional braces, but it may also be used in conjunction with braces.
Our Norton Shores, MI dentist is skilled in diagnosing the misalignments of the teeth, jaw, and facial structure in children and adults in order to provide integrated orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedic care.
